GET OUTTA TOWN - LONDON

Video powered by Metacafe

Once in London, Barbara hooks up with DJ IQ, and the two go on a hunt for the best music shops in the city. Since Barbara is later making her DJing debut at a hot London nightclub, she and IQ must find the perfect record to accompany her. While shopping, Barbara sees some of the city’s most famous sites: Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey, the Globe Theatre and Piccadilly Circus. She even gets to ride the London Eye, which, at 500 feet, is the world’s largest Ferris wheel. The view from the top of the Eye is pretty amazing; London is virtually laid out before Barbara’s feet. Running around has made her hungry, so Barbara fuels up on bangers and mash – a traditional English dish – and heads to Luke’s studio for her spinning lesson. Barbara spins record until Luke declares her ready for her big debut as DJ Barbwire. Needless to say, the evening is a smashing success.

Video powered by Metacafe

Barbara meets her Mexico City co-host, Vanessa, a student and soccer star, at UNAM National University, the biggest university in Latin America. Since soccer is Vanessas passion, she says by the end of the day, after some coaching, she wants Barb to try to score a goal. Barb and Vanessa tour the huge campuss concert halls and library before they find themselves at the stadium, the schools centerpiece, due to Mexicos love for the game of soccer. Vanessa decides to show Barb the city by taking a boat ride through the canal, complete with a Mariachi band on deck! Back on land, Barb and Vanessa walk to San Angel a market and bazaar where they try on some flamenco dresses and learn a couple dance moves. Vanessa wants to teach Barb some of her favourite moves, so they head to Rapido Field, where Barb gets put through various soccer drills. After all that exercise, Barb wants to slow down and see some of Diego Riveras artwork in his studio and at the house he shared with another famous Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. Vanessa and Barb stop to eat some traditional Mexican food at a nearby cantina before viewing some more artwork, this time by Dolores Olmedo. The girls stop at Plaza Loreto, a mall with colonial decoration and outdoor shops, and Barb picks up a Mexico soccer jersey. To get her even more psyched up for her challenge, Vanessa shows Barb the Aztec Stadium Mexicos biggest soccer stadium. Barbara is slightly overwhelmed by its enormous size but, not to worry, this isnt the field shell be playing on. The girls head to a field at the TEC de Monterrey Campus to meet Vanessas teammates; Barb slips on her cleats and shoots a soccer ball at a goalie in a net. SCORE! The team does a victory lap with Barb on their shoulders, then head to fiesta a party complete with traditional foods, dancing clothing and, best of all, a filled with candy!

GET OUTTA TOWN - NEW YORK

Video powered by Metacafe

NOT YOUR PARNETS TRAVEL GUIDE! Barbara meets up with native New Yorker, Vitoria, an aspiring actress, and asks her what it’s like to be a young actor trying to make it in a huge city. Vitoria says she gets much of her inspiration from New York’s landscape, and would be happy to show Barb the sites. From the bow of the ferry heading toward the Statue of Liberty and the Ellis Island Museum, Vitoria explains New York is the city where many people come to live their dreams and pursue their passion in the arts. In the Drama Bookshop, the girls flip through books on auditioning techniques and rehearsing. Since Barb is going to try her hand at stage acting later on, Vitoria takes her to Drama Workshop, where they do an improv exercise with a local actor. They stop to refuel in Chinatown and grab dessert in Little Italy before heading across the Brooklyn Bridge and passing by some more famous landmarks, like the towering UN and Empire States buildings. At the P.S. 1 Arts Center in Queen’s, the girls take in a visual art exhibit. Since Barb is feeling a bit nervous about her fast-approaching performance, Vitoria tries to calm her nerves with a cup of java at Luna Park Café, where many celebrities hang out. Vitoria buys some stage makeup and Barb tries on wigs at Ricky’s Chain Store before they head to The Black Box Theatre, where Barb is introduced to some of the actors in the Fringe production. Vitoria impresses Barb with her performance, so much so that Barb presents her co-host with tickets to the Broadway show, Wicked! The girls watch the show at the Gershwin Theatre and are taken on a backstage tour by one of the actors after the show. On the giant stage, Barb performs a unique soliloquy. Now she feels the old adage about New York is true: “If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.”
